Definitely not. Literally meaning (and living up to its name) lake-forest, this beautiful hill station is part of the Eastern Ghats and is covered in lush greens. It is a small town, yes, but it no way does that undermine the several attractions, sights and sounds that leave you looking for more. Discover it on foot, walk through its winding paths and rocky formations; a task made easier because, at any point, it is not as crowded as Shimla or Ooty. Spend your time here if you're looking to relax - the rose bushes and flaming dahlias are just perfect for that.

 Arthur's Seat: This vantage point provides a bird's eye view of the Lake, Town and Shevaroyan Peak, and is accessible by a steep climb from the city centre.

Grange: One of the oldest buildings in Yercaud, the first commercial plantation of coffee, oranges and apples were planted here. This building was especially active during the Sepoy Mutiny, when gun placements and canon-bearers were added to the existing structure. Today, a resort is located beside the building.

Kiliyur Waterfall: Located 3 kms from the Yercaud Lake, the fall is especially beautiful after monsoons when it gushes down almost 300 ft. It is advisable not to take a vehicle upto it, since the road is very narrow. So don your best walking shoes and enjoy an enthralling sight.

Lady's Seat, Gent's Seat and Children's Seat: These quaint names refer to a group of rocks on the Yercaud Hills. The Lady's Seat derives its name from a set of naturally-made rocks where an English Lady spent a number of evenings viewing the beautiful scenery around. This place also leads to a drop of about 200 feet into a private estate in the valley. Also watch through the telescopes kept in the man-made tower here, which offers the views of the Mettur Dam and the night view of Salem with its shimmering lights. On the right of Lady's Seat are Gent's Seat and Children's Seat and a mini park for picnics.

Yercaud Town: Located almost 4700 ft above sea level, this town is home to several seminaries and convents where brothers and sisters of various religious orders manage their training schools. Especially popular are the Monfort School and Sacred Heart Convent. Also located here is a large native Shandy (market) every Sunday and a smaller one on Wednesdays, where vegetables and fruits are sold.

The Big Lake: This is the unmistakable highlight of the town. Also known as Emerald Lake, this man-made lake is flanked by the hills and natural shoals and a beautifully maintained garden. Enjoy a session of boating here and watch the Floating Fountain located in the midst of it. Adjacent to the lake is a Deer Park and Leisure Park.

Pagoda Point: Also known as Pyramid Point, this is also located on the Yercaud hills and derive their name from four piles of stones placed in a pagoda-style. A temple dedicated to Lord Rama is also located here.

The Servarayan Temple: Located atop the Servarayan Hill, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Kaveri within a narrow cave. This goddess is said to be the patron deity for 67 villages in and around Yercaud and the temple's cave is supposed to touche the Cauvery River. The annual festival dedicated to the goddess is celebrated here in May.

Bear's Cave: Formed by two huge rocks, this is located within the private coffee estate owned by a Mettur-based business man. Believed to be almost 7 ft below the ground level, a route leading to the Shervaroyan Temple is said to exist here.

Anna Park: Located adjacent to the Lake, this is the site of the annual Flower Show held in May. The Japanese Park inside Anna Park is especially popular with children.
Botanical Survey of India: This is responsible for maintaining the Botanical Garden, which houses a rich collection of plants. Especially noteworthy is a Bell Rock, which makes a bell-like sound when hit with a stone. Also maintained by the BSI is the Orchidarium, which is said to house the largest collection of native orchids.
Horticulture Farm: This Farm is home to the Rose Garden, which is filled with a vast variety of exotic and rare roses. A Green Rose plant is grown, which is especially interesting. You can also buy the saplings of several rose plants. Also worth-visiting would be the Silk Farm, where cultivation of mulberries, growing of silk worms and the method of spinning silk are shown.

Sri Raja Rajeswari Temple: Dedicated to the goddess of all gods, the idol of the deity is surrounded by a large number of gods and goddesses. It is believed that by praying here, you can attain wealth and prosperity and higher levels of spirituality. 
Tipperary View Point: Another point in Yercaud to catch glimpses of the surrounding region, must watch here are the Elephant Tooth Rocks, which are said to have been formed when a meteorite fell on earth. The rock is absolutely white and the night view from this spot is enthralling.
