Ask around and stick to the known names. Not tough, because there are hardly any lavish restaurants and the in-house hotels cater mostly to their guests. Royal Retreat and Ishwari Niwas serve decent North Indian food. The restaurant in Heritage Hotel caters to the dining needs of guests who can sample mouth-watering Indian, Chinese and continental delicacies. Most tourist havelis also have their own restaurants, which serve Rajasthani cuisine.

Do try out the famous thali and spicy fish. The restaurant in Haveli Uma Megh is perfect for those romantic nights and candle lit dinner. Its lakeside garden is peaceful and a perfect place to relax and unwind. Kasera Guest House has a great rooftop restaurant and there is the rooftop restaurant at the Badi Haveli which has a fantastic view of the town and palaces. We say, skip the usual daal-chawal, and gorge on the traditional fares of daal-baati-choorma, laas maas (red meat) and safed maas (white meat)! You’d simply love it!
