Before we look to the west for their snow-capped mountains and cool climes, you must look within your own country and its obvious opulence. The Kangra Valley up north in Himachal Pradesh is one such jewel that is too beautiful and offers too much goodness to be ignored. This region nestled in the magnificent Himalayas promises a wealth of nature, pleasantly chilly climes and an assortment of activities for the family. It is protected by the mighty Dhauladhar range and from the Valley, you get a glimpse of this mountain range with its abundant flora and fauna, tea gardens and pine forests and terrace fields. You will find several trekking routes through the Dhauladhar range, including one that starts from Dharamshala to Chamba. This picturesque valley has several other adventure options like hang gliding, para sailing and mountaineering as well for adventure-lovers. The Kangra Valley even finds mention in the Rigveda, one of the oldest epics in the world. The Valley was also the site for one of the oldest wars humankind has known. Such is the importance and beauty of this snowy region—that try as you might, you will never forget it.
