Kangra Valley

Kangra Art Museum: Situated in lower Dharamshala, the Kangra Art Museum comprises old coins and scriptures, ancient artefacts, unique paintings and sculptures on display for visitors. These artefacts are known for their Tibetan and Buddhist origins and as such, hold much importance historically. According to popular belief, this museum was constructed way back in the 5th century.

Kangra Fort: The Kangra Fort, located 20 kms from Dharamshala, was first mentioned in Alexander the Great’s war records. This ancient fort, possibly the oldest in India, is situated just on the outskirts of Kangra. Built by the royal Rajput family of Kangra, this fort is touted to be one of the most beautiful forts in India.

Masroor Rock Cut Temple: Also known as the Himalayan Pyramid, the Masroor Rock Cut Temple is an 8th century monolithic temple complex of 15 temples carved out of a single rock. It is said that the Pandavas resided here during their exile from their kingdom. Very soon, this temple could achieve UNESCO World Heritage Site status, and for good reason

Jwalamukhi Temple: This temple is dedicated to the goddess with the flaming mouth, rightly named Jwalamukhi a manifestation of Goddess Durga. Apparently, there is no idol of the goddess inside the temple, and the deity is worshipped in the form of flames that come out of the cracks in the rock. This temple is considered to be one of the 52 Shakti Peethas of India.

Pong Lake Sanctuary: The Pong Lake Sanctuary is known for its lush forests and its 220 species of birds belonging to 54 families and 27 varieties of fish. This sanctuary is also famous for housing the Nilgai, Sambar, Wild Boar, Barking Deer and Clawless Otter.
