Periyar, Thekkady, Periyar National Park, call it what you will. This is home to the ferocious predator, the elusive Big Cat. One of the quietest national park, it is also possibly one of the few where you would actually walk through the rough terrain. The land is beautiful, yes. But who would have ever imagined that this was one poacher's paradise. Now, those very hunters are turned protectors. And their superb knowledge of the terrain and the tiger make them the best possible guides you can get. The location is perfect, amidst rolling hills and mist-laden clouds and centered by a beautiful lake, from where come the humming sounds of the monkeys and the sudden growl of a tiger that just darts by. Don't be disappointed if you cannot sight them - there is a certain charm in watching gamboling elephants, twittering birds and playful spotted deers.
