The major shopping areas are centred on Civil Lines, Chowk and Katra areas and the more recent Allahpur. This holy town has quite a range of religious paraphernalia, like sandalwood, incense, beads, vermilion and camphor. Electronic goods, computer equipments, books and tiny souvenirs are also easily available. The city is also famous for its bookshops, so try and get your hands on the religious books. Especially known for its embroidery-work, Allahabad is one of the best places to pick up the chikankari work done on garments. The Government Emporia and the UP Handlooms are popular places to pick these from. Brass lamps and inlay work, and mojri-like shoes also feature on people's shopping lists.
