Corbett

Bird Sightings: Home to over 580 varieties of avifauna, Corbett National Park constitutes as an ornithologist's paradise. The varieties include the Darter, Herons, White-Necked & Black-Necked Storks, the Fishing Eagle, Hornbills, Parakeets, Wire-Tailed Swallows, the Crested Honey Buzzard, Booted Hawk Eagle and the White-Crested Khalij Pheasant. Among the night birds are Spotted Owlet, Fish Owls, Jungle Nightjar, the Franklin's Nightjar, the Stone Curlew and the Great Stone Plover.

Fishing: Angling and fishing is generally allowed in the Ramganga and Kosi Rivers outside the boundaries of the park. Remember to obtain the required permit for this from the Project Tiger office in Ramnagar and if you get lucky you just carry your prize catch - a mahaseer or a catfish!

River Rafting: Rafting enthusiasts visit Corbett during the monsoon, when the park is closed but the Kosi River is overflowing with water. Most resorts also organize rafting activities, as well as river crossing, rappelling and rock climbing.

Kaladhungi Museum: Located 34 km from Ramnagar, Jim Corbett's bungalow is today a museum, showcasing his fine collection of rifle cases, hats, fishing nets, photographs and letters. In the garden of this house are the graves of his two dogs. Also, visit the Corbett Waterfall, which gushes down 20 ft and is located just 3 km away.

Garjiya: Located 14 km from Ramnagar, it derives its name from the Garjiya Devi Temple, situated over a huge rock over the Kosi River. This temple is visited by a huge number of pilgrims, especially on Kartik Purnima night.
