Shopping in the colorful markets of Bhopal is definitely going to leave you with some great buys. Its narrow alleyways bustle with open air markets and the two main markets in Bhopal are the Chowk Area and New Market. Well known for its Bhopali crafts, here is where you can find exquisite silver jewellery, beautifully-fashioned beadwork, sequined and embroidered velvet purses and cushions. The craftsmen create wonderful evening bags, stoles and slippers.

Mrignayani Emporium and Handicrafts Emporium are two good places for souvenir hunting and they also stock up a good collection of local handicrafts. Apart from simple beadwork, do take your pick from many of the fine woolen fabrics. You can head out to various government run emporiums, to buy fabrics. For fabrics specifically originating in Madhya Pradesh as well as saris and shawls from Madhya Pradesh, visit the MP Government State Emporium. Bhopal is known for its silks and the Chowk Area is the place to head to for silk saris and dresses. The old city streets have fascinating shops to explore, from where you can pick up the famous Maheshwari and Chanderi saris, hand-embroidered clothes and genuine antiques. You could also try the New Market which is less crowded although bargaining maybe stiff. Of course, you must be extremely good at bargaining here, since that would let you to bring the prices down considerably!
