Marina Beach: One of the most popular tourist attractions in Chennai is the Marina Beach that is bang in the centre of the city. It is also the largest beach in the country and packs quite a punch with its splendid views and sparkling water. Lovely place for a picnic with friends and family.
Elliot's Beach: If you are a beach bum but want a more secluded and quiet beach to chill at, then Elliot’s Beach is your best bet. You will also find the famous Ashta Lakshmi Temple and Velankanni Church on the southern end of this beach, if you want to explore the religious side of the city.
Sri Parthasarathy Temple: Sri Parthasarathy Temple is supposed to be the oldest and the most historical in Chennai. Featuring a coloured gopuram that sets it aside as an architectural marvel, the temple has Lord Krishna as its residing deity. If you want to soak in some spiritual and cultural vibes, this temple is a must-visit.
San Thome Church: The San Thome Church is a crucial part of the history and culture of Chennai. This grand structure is a reminder of the colonial past of the city, and features pretty stained glass windows and a statue of St Thomas in a sitting position. Within the church premises you will find a museum and library, as well.
Fort St. George: Fort St. George is a must-visit for the history and art enthusiasts. Built during the British era, it consists of monuments of St. Mary’s Church and St. George Museum. History buffs will be delighted to find artefacts from that era including coins, paintings, silverware, porcelain and arms.
Semmozhi Poonga: The Semmozhi Poonga is a botanical garden that sprawls over 2an area of 0 acres. This is a charming place to visit with your family on a day picnic. The garden features exotic flora and a lot of rare medicinal herbs in the green houses. The garden also has a rock garden, butterfly garden, and many other theme-based gardens.
Cholamandal Artist Village: The Cholamandal Artist Village is a place for local artists to exhibit their work. Situated in Injambakkam, this village features an open-air theatre, two galleries, a book store and a crafts shop. Take a day off sight-seeing and take in some unique art and culture at the Cholamandal Artist Village.
Guindy National Park: The Guindy National Park houses a variety of birds, animals and reptiles and is a great place for a family outing. You will find animals like jackals, tortoise, black bucks, spotted deer, reptiles like cobras and pythons and birds like quail, buzzards and partridges.
