Editor's Note
Daman charms all. As you leave the city traffic and dust behind, and breathe in the cool, if salty, breeze of Daman, it becomes obvious that the Portuguese left behind a great influence. Daman or the Gujarati's favourite weekend hangout shows-off lines of palm trees and casuarina groves. Similar to Goa in its beaches, it definitely lacks the bursting flow of tourists. The locals are easy, if a little laid-back, and you can find them often sipping a chilled beer and discussing the stories of Nani Daman and Moti Daman. Having been visited by the Portuguese, Goans and even Africans, Daman seems to carry traces of their cultures. But leave aside your speculations and enter Daman to sit on the breezy beach at sunset with a glass of wine and some prawn masala.
