What to See
Rajwada: Also known as Rajwada Palace, this gigantic mansion was built by the Holkars of the Maratha empire. This palace is a mixture of Mughal, Maratha and French styles of architecture and is truly a sight to see. This palace was burnt thrice, the last time being as recent as 1984, and the it was later rebuilt. This palace is a must-visit if you are interested in the architecture of olden times.
Central Museum: Also known as the Indore Museum, the Central Museum is one of the most-frequented sites in Indore. This museum has a wide range of historic collections that date back to almost 5000 BC. Artefacts that you will find in this museum are Hindu mythological carvings, sculptures and a Ganpati statue which is considered as the world's biggest statue of Lord Ganpati.
Patalpani Waterfall: Located approximately 35 kms from Indore, the Patalpani waterfall cascades down from a height of around 300 ft. The waterfall is a sight for sore eyes and is surrounded by hills and lush forests that are truly captivating. Not only this, this area is also a great place to trek, but it's a good idea to avail the services of the local guides first.
Lal Baag Pakace: The construction of the Lal Baag Palace started in the year 1886 and was completed in 1921. This palace is believed to be the finest in Indore, and is heavily influenced by the European style of architecture. It is said that the gates of this palace are the exact replica of the gates of the Buckingham Palace of England. See it to believe it!
Regional Park: Also known as the Pipliyapala Regional Park, it is a perfect spot for nature-lovers to relax and spend some quiet time surrounded by nature. The many gardens here and the lovely fountains make this park great for photo-ops, too! If you want to cruise around in a boat, you can avail the boating services available here, as well.
Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary: The Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary is a great place to feast your eyes on the variety of flora and fauna that inhabits this place. Established in 1989, this sanctuary is located in an area that is blessed with bountiful nature and picturesque views. Some of the animal species that you may be able to spot here are leopards, sambars, barking deer and black bucks.
